Budgeting

Budgets depend upon numerous factors such as:

  • facility size
  • whether it is new construction, a full replacement or an upgrade of existing systems
  • whether it is Operator Interface (OI) systems only, or
  • OI and "head-end" (central equipment), or
  • OI, head-end, and field devices
  • whether hard panel or video control is chosen
  • whether the upgrade/replacement is all at once or incremental

New electronics construction typically costs $3,000 to 5,000 per cell, depending on the facility's size and complexity. Because over half of the cost of new construction is for field devices, cable, and conduit--which are hopefully re-used in a retrofit--replacements typically run $1200 to 0ver $2000 per cell. If wiring must be replaced due to its condition, code violations, or other reasons, the cost goes up accordingly.
